OBJ TV INTERVIEW: JUNE 05, 2001 SIGPRO Donates a Scholarship to Carleton University Reporter: Ottawa's SIGPRO Wireless is celebrating its first anniversary by donating a scholarship to Carleton University. SIGPRO is working on system-on-chip technology for use in wireless hand-held devices. Many of its 45 employees are Carleton... The company is supporting the university with a scholarship to encourage students to enter the wireless society. Dr. Murthy: Carleton has provided us almost nearly 20 to 25 percent of workforce is from Carleton. We would like to recognize their contribution to our progress and we would like to encourage that by providing a token in return. Garry: I think that it's really important that we attract more people to work in this area, for the Ottawa area and for companies of this kind. You know that there is a desperate shortage of engineers who can do this kind of work. And the growth of economy is really dependent on being able to train more. So anything we can do to attract more students in this area is very valuable. Reporter: SIGPRO is planning to have 65 employees by the end of this year and 150 by the end of 2002.
