NEW RO TV INTERVIEW: JUNE 18, 2001 Spotlight on SIGPRO and the job search in Ottawa Interviewer: As you know, it has been a very tough six months so far. We've had over 10, 000 layoffs in local companies. But, at the same time we added one thousand jobs mostly with smaller start-ups and they actually plan to add another 1000 before year-end. Laid-off from a Web Development Company and with no engineering degree to speak of, Melissa Bulmer knew she faced an uphill battle. Melissa: You just have to put the package together. Interviewer: How did you find the opportunity? How did it come to you? Melissa: How I'm doing? You've got to get your resume and make sure that it goes to the right spot. Interviewer: After two months, she landed on her feet with SIGPRO Wireless. Melissa: There's a good market out there. You just have to look for it. Interviewer: We've all gotten used to seeing headlines like this one...a lot of doom and gloom "Nortel cuts 10,000 jobs". But inside, in allot of these same publications, you'll find ads like this one: "SIGPRO Wireless. Job openings in all areas, growing steadily" and they include jobs beyond just engineering positions. They are also hiring people in marketing and business development. Dr. Murthy: We are focused on technology development and are now expanding into Marketing, business development, and sales. That's why we are able to hire people in those areas as well. Melissa: Research is key. Don't send your resume anywhere. Make sure that you send it to a profitable place going places.
